I love Volkswagen Rabbits, they’re such an iconic car of the 70′s and 80′s. They were the first watercooled VW, which was a huge step forward, as the rest of the automotive industry (especially Japan) had been producing watercooled cars at the time. Another innovation applied to the Rabbit which was new to VW, was front wheel drive. Most of this technology came from Audi, with their FWD vehicles and expertise in watercooled engines. 1974 was when the first MK1 Golf (Rabbit) was produced off the line, and soon after it became known all around the world, getting a Semperit Irish Car of the Year Award in 1978 and British “What Car?” magazine’s Car of the Year for 1981.
