WTB E30. And opinions. - jasonrc2 - 10.25.2011 06.06 PM

Well now that my civic was stolen I am looking to pick up an E30. Im kinda new to the bimmer scene but I have a pretty good idea of what I want. I was gonna see if anyone could help me out on finding good deals.

I really like this one but the price seems kinda high. Do you think its worth that much?

This seems like a good deal but out of my price range

Seems decent. But I was kinda looking for an M20.

The last has an m20, but it's an eta, which means it's super slow. It revs to 4500. You hav to run ms1 to muster anything outta it. Good for boost tho.

Couple things to look out for and tips for buying them:

325s and 325e/es have the eta motor which means it's built to get good mpg (lucky to get 25)

89+ 318is are the best bet for building, the m5x s5x swap is pretty straight forward and they come with LSD

325is are the second choice, this is what I had high compression m20 with LSD.

Get one with out a sun roof because they are constantly leaking and check the tail ligh gaskets regularly you will get a trunk full of water.

They are really fun cars and have alot of support. Read a lot on r3v DIY section

Agreed i'd shoot for a 318is. I had a 325es. It was kind of slow, but still a really fun car to drive. In my experience E30's are pretty easy to work on. I tried working on an e36 with my cousin, it was a bit more complicated. It also depends on what you want though. All e30's are fun and cheap to work on. Like i said, i would build it though. I'm guessing it would be a lot cheaper then buying one pre-built. Choice is yours

3600 is a bit much for an eta

Hmm okay maybe i can talk him down in price a little..

what about the m20 engine for $500. seem like a good deal? idk how much these run for.

Seem pretty standard.

I'd wait for a car that has an I motor that's in you price range, 3500+500=4000 you could get an m50 swapped car for that.

Oh and pre88 cars have steel/aluminum diving board bumpers that are hidious and why like 50 lbs

Cheap to work on and fucking expensive to mod

get a good job and buy a nice car above the year 2000 =D

RE: WTB E30. And opinions. - brandonj1 - 10.26.2011 05.48 PM

The kid's in hs he doesnt need a nice car. They have more lux fetures than most cars in the 00's E30s are fun as long has you have time and patience, they are pretty finicky but will run "good enough" forever

RE: WTB E30. And opinions. - nwss - 10.26.2011 05.52 PM

haha hes in hs so he probably doesnt have the money to build it and make it decent. but i drove a 01 f150 in hs..what wrong with something nice in hs?

RE: WTB E30. And opinions. - brandonj1 - 10.26.2011 05.59 PM

Nothing, I just assumed since 5000 for the black e30 was outta his budget that a nice car might not be what he's looking for.

His civic was pretty clean tho

That's funny that you drove a f150 cause I drove my dads 03 while he was in Iraq my junior year.
