School or car? This is a question many people in our scene have to ask themselves. To most people, the easy answer is school, but to a true enthusiast that question can be a little more difficult to answer. So when I posed the question to Justin, owner of this 2007 Subaru WRX STi, his quick response surprised me. “Hmm… School or car? Car!” You see, Justin is a real enthusiast. He purchased his car brand new off the lot with 11 miles on the odometer. In fact, it was the last new Pearl White ’07 STi in the state when he got it. Talk about luck huh? Well, his luck didn’t last long.

“Within the first week of driving it I got backed into. $3,200 worth of damage which put it in the shop for a month! I had a new car I couldn’t even drive.” After the excruciating month-long wait, the first thing Justin did was put on a new catback exhaust. But seven months later, his bad luck struck again. His car was hit a second time, in the same spot no less. “I started to wonder if the the three sixes in a row in my vin number had anything to do with the bad luck.”

After the car was repaired again, Justin started going to town on the car, as his mod list will prove. “I aimed to get parts others didn’t have, like the diamond weave carbon hood and trunk and the huge roof vane spoiler.”

The car definitely stands out from the crowded Subaru scene here in Washington. But don’t think for a second that Justin is one of those all show and no go guys.

“I had a lot of power pushing the stock internals before this setup, (28psi) and just decided to build the motor as a sense of security so it could handle more power safely. So I turned to the awesome crew of Pacific Import Auto to do so. They had well-known Subaru tuner Tim Bailey come up from Oregon to tune my car at their shop and he gave me a conservative safe tune with plenty of power. I told him I wanted 450 to the wheels safely and he sure as heck did it.”
The car is now pushing 451awhp and 404wtq @25psi. Definitely not just another slammed Subaru.

Justin’s car is a great example of function and form getting along nicely, and I’m excited to see what else he does with it.

“I loved building this car and dont ever see myself getting rid of it, good times and lots of memories for sure. The best part is, aside from the motor work, I did everything myself from day one.” Justin also has some people he would like to thank for helping to make this car what it is. “I would really like to thank the crew at PIA, Tim Bailey for the tuning, and also my parents for co-signing to help me get the car I always wanted. And yes, I make the payments myself.”
